Making Washing Soda

You can of course just buy Washing Soda. However if you don't have any on hand you can also make it yourself using baking soda. Turning Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) into sodium carbonate (washing soda) can be accomplished by simply heating the baking soda in the oven for long enough to change the chemical structure. Heat causes the excess carbon dioxide and steam to be released and wallah!!! you have washing soda

What you will need:

  • Baking soda ( 1 box or jar or as much as you want to make)

  • Baking tray with edges

Method

Spread out your baking soda on the oven tray. It can be up to 1 1/2 cm thick.

Have your oven heated to 200 degrees Celsius

Place your tray in the oven and allow to cook for 1 hr.

Stir the baking powder twice over the hour so it heats evenly
