Rosewood – Aniba roseodora
Part used: Wood
Known as Brazilian Rosewood, this evergreen tree grows in the tropical rainforests of South America. It can grow to be 30 meters tall and 2 meters in diameter. The entire tree is fragrant with red leaves, purple fruit and vibrant pink wood. The tree is grown in the wild with the fruits being spread throughout the forests by Toucan. Due to the endangered status of these beautiful trees, Absolute Essential has acquired certification for its sustainable harvesting and will continue to offer this special essential oil for therapeutic purposes.
The Rosewood is native to the Amazon rainforest and has long been used for medicinal purposes among the native tribes of the Amazon basin. It has been cited as comforting to the emotions and is considered helpful for establishing mental calm. The evocative woody oil is considered grounding and stimulating and has been used to complement sexual therapies. Colds, fever and infections are other ailments to be associated with this gentle Rosewood. Rosewood oil is a byproduct of furniture production and though no trees were felled directly to produce it, Absolute Essential has decided to disassociate with the industry and discontinue this line when current stock has sold out. Sustainable sources are being developed but with a 40-year-old tree needed for oil production, this is not an immediate prospect.
A sweet and woody rose-like floral.
Blends well with: Geranium, Palmarosa, Cedarwood and Grapefruit.
