A Brief History of Biosun Hopi Ear Candles
Biosun Hopi Ear Candling is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilizations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis, but much later, on a purely physical basis.
The practice reached the modern world via the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers. Ancient wall paintings show their importance in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.
The Biosun Hopi Ear Candling treatment successfully treats balance and inner ear problems, compacted ear wax, ringing in the ears, tinnitus, hearing difficulties and sinusitis as well as colds, ‘flu, sore throats, stress, headaches and migraines and is a good alternative for those who have found syringing uncomfortable.

Biosun Ear Candles are suitable for children and safe to use during pregnancy, however, we do not recommend having the treatment within the first 3 months of pregnancy. There are no contraindications with the use of the Aroma Ear Candles that contain essential oils, as the amount of essential oil within the candle is in a very small amount (only 0.001 gram of the whole weight of the Ear Candle).
What are the Biosun Hopi Ear candles made from?
Quite different from conventional wax candles, a Biosun Hopi ear candle is actually a cotton tube made from premium quality ingredients, including pesticide-free and untreated cotton, pure beeswax, honey extract which contains the following vitamins: B6, thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid. Minerals: calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc, St Johns Wort, Sage and Camomile – a herb which has anti-inflammatory and astringent properties which helps to restrict blood flow and mucous secretion and helps relive mental stress, anxiety, nervousness and excitability.
What does it involve?
Clients are advised to remove makeup and jewellery before the treatment starts. Fully dressed the client lies down on their side, with their head supported on a pillow so the auditory canal is vertical. After approximately 10 minutes the process is repeated on the other ear. This is followed by a period of relaxation and a head and facial pressure point massage concentrating on the sinus areas.
How do Biosun Hopi Ear Candles work?
The process involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear When lit, the ear candle generates a gentle heat which produces a light suction action while the rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage This is known as the “chimney” principle and works by drawing impurities gently to the surface, where they can be removed.
The lit candle generates a pleasant crackling sound and a warm, comfortable feeling, a soothing, calming experience which protects any irritated areas.
Most deposits evaporate and are carried away through the candle ‘chimney’, but some are found in the condensed candle wax residue after it is removed from the ear. None of the candle residue actually goes into the ear.
What are the side effects and when should it be avoided?
Hopi ear candles should not be used if there is any inflammation or infection in the ear and are not suitable for people who have had recent ear surgery or those with ear grommets or tubes, perforated ear drums or allergies to any of the products in the candle.
Anyone who is receiving medical treatment for any ear condition should always consult their doctor first.
